380 kg ganja seized; Two held with drugs

Imphal, April 24 2022:
A team of Saikul police station seized 380.44 kg contraband ganja kept in ten gunny bags in a village in Kangpokpi district Friday.
A police report stated that based on information about Ganja bags kept in a rented quarters at Govajang (Lhungtin) village a team of Saikul police station conducted search and recovered the contraband items around 7:30 pm.
The search was carried out under the supervision of the officer-in-charge of Saikul PS, Inspector Suresh Anthony and the overall supervision of Kangpokpi SP Amrita Sinha, it said.
The search team found the ganja consignment weighing 380.44kgs wrapped in polythene bags inside gunny bags.
One Shyam Basnet (58), a resident of Kanglatongbi was also arrested in connection with the seizure.
During spot interrogation, Shyam Basnet also confessed to possessing another 44 grams of opium in two tobacco containers which were subsequently seized with the help of Sekmai police station.
A case has been registered at Saikul PS, it added.
Meanwhile, a team of Imphal West District Police arrested two people who were travelling in an auto rickshaw with narcotic drugs from near Lilong Bridge around 11 am on Sunday.
The arrested duo has been identified as Md Ali Khan (35) s/o Md Nazimuddin of Hapta and Md Ajijur (19) s/o (L) Md Muji of Borayangbi Makha Leikai, but presently residing at Hatta Golapati.
Md Ali Khan is the driver of the auto rickshaw.
According to a police report, the police team on checking and frisking operation near Lilong bridge halted a suspicious looking auto rickshaw with no number plate.
The police team then checked the two occupants of the auto rickshaw and recovered two soap caps containing 25 gm of Heroin from their possession.
Both the arrested people and the seized items along with the auto rickshaw have been handed over to Singjamei PS for further legal action.
