Imphal, July 23 2019:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has submitted a memorandum to the Minister of State of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju, appealing for necessary steps to fill up the posts ofVice Chancellor, Registrar, Controller of Examination and all other administrative and faculty posts on regular basis as well as to establish all the statutory bodies of National Sports University Manipur at the earliest.
The memo submitted by DESAM further appealed to the Union Minister to ensure development of necessary infrastructure at the site at Koutruk-Haraothel, Imphal West for which sufficient land has been provided by the State Government, without further delay and to issue strict instructions for conducting all interviews for the appointment of the staff, including the faculty members, only at NSU Imphal and not at Delhi or Kolkata.
DESAM explained that the existence of NSU in Manipur is being questioned due to the absence of manpower and necessary infrastructure despite the start of regular courses since December 17, 2017 and added that the university has been running in namesake with only one Dean since the start of the session.
It continued that even after 2 years and 7 months of existence, no permanent infrastructure related to the university has been created and no National or International athletes have ever been trained using the world class infrastructure of NSU.
It further explained that two interviews have been conducted for the appointment of the faculty for NSU but they were not held in Manipur where the NSU HQ is located.
Pointing out that walk-in interviews for the appointment of the faculty members of NSU are going to be conducted on August 5 and 9 this year at New Delhi, DESAM further asked why the interviews are not held in Manipur as most of the applicants are from the NE region, Manipur in particular.
