Imphal, July 23 2013:
The Indian National Congress (INC), which is the oldest political party in the country, has come down to the level of a regional party with its policy of enforcing the National Food Security Ordinance only in the Congress-ruled states, State Secretary of CPI Dr M Nara has asserted while addressing media persons at Irawat Bhavan
here today.
He further said that the obscurity of National Food Security Bill has even created dissent among the Congressmen.
It is very much evident from the words of Chief Minister of Mizoram who has refused to implement the Food Security Ordinance in the state, Dr Nara noted.
The Food Security Bill is just an imitation from the State policies of Tamil Nadu and Tripura which are ruled by alliances of Left Front.
These two States have already supplied rice at Rs 2 per kilogram to the public.
The Congress Party would eventually face undesired outcomes as a result of this fallacious policy, the CPI State Secretary contended.
He continued that the Congress Party had earlier rejected the National Food Security Bill citing huge monthly expenditure of about Rs 40000 crores when it was put forward by the Left Front.
The policy of the UPA Government to enforce the Food Security Ordinance in Congress-ruled States is a narrow-minded political strategy aimed at garnering people's support in the coming Lok Sabha election, Dr Nara added.
The CPI leader also lambasted the State Congress Government for its failure to implement the Centrally-sponsored schemes such as MGNREGS, SSA, ICDS and NHRM for the benefits and welfare of common people.
Dr Nara further demanded the Government to monitor prices and ensure continued availability of essential commodities to the public in the aftermath of highway blockage due to landslide at Phesema in Nagaland.
