Manipur artistes leave Imphal for Surin International Cultural Exchange 2019, Thailand

Imphal, January 23 2019:
A team of 20 led by Art & Culture Director A Shivdas Sharma has left Imphal for Thailand today to participate in the Surin International Cultural Exchange from January 25 to 31st Surin Rajabhat University, Thailand.
The team including several artistes were flagged off by Art & Culture Minister L Jayantakumar from the premises of the Directorate of Art & Culture, Imphal.
Speaking to media persons, L Jayantakumar said that Surin is one of the northeastern provinces of Thailand and is a cultural hub.
This is not the first time that Manipur has represented India at the International Cultural Exchange, he said.
A special invitation was sent here this year considering the performances and success of the previous visit, he said and wished the team grand success on its journey.
Just before the team left, A Shivdas Sharma, Director Art & Culture said that 12 countries are participating the Surin International Cultural Exchange and an about 24 countries will be performing and showcasing different cultural activities at the event.
The Manipur team representing India will showcase about 7 items including folk song, folk dance, Leima jagoi, Kabui dance and Maibi jagoi etc, he said.
The main venue is Surin Rajabhat University while the participating teams will travel across Thailand and showcase their cultural activities, he added.
At the opening ceremony of the event, Art & Culture Director A Shivdas Sharma will grace as chief guest with Thailand Governor as president.
Emphasising the need for preservation and promotion of State art and culture, Commissioner Art & Culture M Lakshmikumar wished the team grand success.
The event will help expand the horizons of the artistes, he said.
