Imphal, April 22 2013:
Reacting against the decision of the State Government to bring back Shivadas Sharma as the Deputy Director of Transport Directorate after he had been transferred to Chandel as SDO/BDO, staffs of the Directorate shut down the office and started launching an indefinite cease work strike from today.
The agitated staffs prevented anyone from entering the office of the Directorate by locking the main gate of the office located at Babupara.
They also put up placards with wordings like 'Save Transport Department', 'Go back Shivadas', 'We don't want to work with him', 'We don't want him to be Deputy Director of Transport', etc, at the gate of the Directorate.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao on the sidelines of the protest agitation, Ottong Khongsai, General Secretary of All Manipur Transport Department Motor Vehicles Employees Union, stated that Shivadas Sharma was the Deputy Director of Transport for about one and a half month before he was transferred as the SDO/BDO of Chandel.
But four days back, the State Government passed an order making him as the Deputy Director of Transport.
Khongsai informed that Shivadas Sharma has a very rough attitude as far as his dealing with the staffs is concerned and at the same time his sincerity towards the development and betterment of the transport Department is always in question.
As such, the employees of the Transport Directorate strongly objected to bringing him back as the Deputy Director.
The agitation would continue as long as the State Government fails to review its decision, he added.
