Tamei, August 19 2014:
A massive rally was held at Tamei headquarters in Tamenglong district demanding the posting of doctors at Tamei Primary Health Centre (PHC) today.
Simultaneously, a 12-hour bandh sponsored jointly by Zeliangrong Students Union-Tamei Area (ZSU-TA), Tamei Headquarters Youth Club, Liangmai Pui Baudi, Tamei Women Front, Tamei Students' Union and Liangmai Katimai Ruangdi (LNKR) was also imposed in the Tamei sub divisional headquarters from 3 am today.
About 2000 people including students from all the schools in the vicinity of the headquarters participated in the rally.
Shops and offices did not open today and the private and public transports too did not operate in Tamei area for the day.
After the rally, the frontal organisations of Tamei sub division resolved to resort to drastic form of agitation if the state government of Manipur continues to neglect the people of the sub-division.
The people of the sub division heavily depend on the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Tamei as other sub-health centres in the sub-division have not been functioning at all.
Patients rushing to the PHC often go back home as doctors are not in the station.
During the rally, the people shouted slogans demanding that the state government immediately send doctors at Tamei PHC.
For the past three months or so no doctors have been attending the Tamei PHC, according to Pougaibou, convenor of Zeliangrong Students Union-Tamei Area.
He stated that irked by the situation, the people of Tamei have locked the PHC for the past few days.
"We will take up stringent forms of agitation if the state government does not attend our cries," warned Pougaibou.
