Scrap shop explosion injures 2

Imphal, November 17 2011:
An explosion inside a scrap shop caused injuries to two persons this afternoon in Imphal and in a separate incident two persons were wounded when a bomb exploded in a market in Ukhrul district on Thursday.
In the first incident, a blast occurred at around 12:30 pm in front of a scrap shop at Uripok Yambem Leikai in Imphal West when the shop owner tried to cut a pipe with a file which suddenly exploded and caused injuries to him and another person who was standing nearby the shop.
The blast also caused damage to a school van parking in front of the shop.
The injured are indentified as Opendrakumar, 36 s/o Sorbon Rai, of Sitawari district in Bihar, presently staying at Major Khul here and the other one as Laishram Kaoba, 42 s/o (L) Tomba of Langthabal.
Tomba, a van driver, was at the spot waiting to pick up students from a school located nearby.
Sources said Opendrakumar hit the pipe with a hammer to cut it into pieces after filing it for some time when it accidentally exploded.
It appeared that the scrapped iron was a pipe bomb which the shop collected unknowingly.
They got multiple injuries in the explosion.
Both of them were rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences ( RIMS) hospital.
A team of police commandos led by Imphal West Deputy Superintendant of Police, Ibomcha rushed to the site and conducted a verification and retrieved the iron pipe along with the splinters for further investigation.
In another incident, two non-locals were injured in a bomb attack at a busy market in Ukhrul district, a police said today.
At around 5:10 this evening, a hand grenade lobbed by assailants at a hardware shop at Dewland Market in Ukhrul district exploded, wounding two shopkeepers.
They have been rushed to a nearby hospital, the police official added.
The injured have been identified as Vijay Sharma, 45 of Tikai village, Rajasthan and Ashok Rai, 30 from Majab Thakur district of Rajasthan, the official said.
Both the injured are stated to be shopkeepers of Agarwal hardware store where the blast took place.
The reason for the attack was not known.
Also, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
