First dose of vaccine given to over one lakh: DC

The 75th Independence Day was celebrated by strictly adhering to SOPs at Tuibong Peace Ground, Churachandpur on Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner Pawan Yadav hoisted the national tri-colour and took salute of the march past parade of four contingents commanded by SDPO (Thanlon) David Kilong.
Hie contingents comprised ex-servicemen, civil police (male & female) and ADC staff.
Presentation of awards to outstanding social/NGO workers, government employees and march past contingents marked the occasion.
Significantly, chief of Sumchinvum village was presented a citation in recognition and appreciation of the village achieving cent percent vaccination of eligible villagers.
Addressing the gathering, Pawan Yadav stated that 1 lakh people have been vaccinated with first dose of Covid vaccine and around 23,000 with second dose in Churachandpur.
He complimented the frontline workers, volunteers, general public and various CSOs for their support jn the fight against Covid-19.He further complimented the police forces for maintaining law and order as the district has shown a significant improvement in terms of governance and implementation of various flagship programmes.
He lauded the frontline workers for the selfless service rendered by them beyond the call of duty, working endlessly day and night for the society and the nation.
He observed that on Sunday's 75th Independence Day, "our frontline workers epitomize the belief, signify hope in the time of struggle and endless service to humanity".
The deputy commissioner stated that his administration has been not only undertaking several measures for multidimensional development in all fields by leaps and bounds to provide good governance but has also planned various innovative projects to improve the overall administration.
Highlighting the many flagship initiatives taken up during the last one year, Pawan pointed out that water supply scheme under JJM aims to cover 430 villages and further 177 villages are proposed to be covered under New Development Bank (NDB).
The DC asserted that under the 15th Finance Commission funding in convergence with Autonomous District Council, various maintenance works for improvement of Zone-I intake, Zone-III intake and providing of water in schools were carried out.
He maintained that Churachandpur PHED scripted history for the first time by developing software for computerized billing system and also the PHED obtaining NABL accreditation on April 16 for testing of nine parameters in their water testing laboratory, which will the first in hill districts of Manipur and second in the state.
He stated that under the contingency fund, three community sanitary complexes at KIC Complex, YPA Hall and S Zezaw village were constructed in addition to one plastic management unit taken up at Saihenjang village.
The DC also pointed out that Churachandpur district is included among the most affected 272 districts of India (in drug abuse by people) for taking up campaigns against menace of drug addiction and substance (drug) abuse under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) under MoSJE, Govt of India during 2020-21 .
He observed that many awareness generation programmes, rallies, etc, under Action Plan were conducted successfully by the District Level Committee on NMBA, Churachandpur in coordination with Police department, NYK, IRCA, NGOs, local clubs schools and general public in the whole district.
The district police from January to July 2021 collected an amount of Rs 5,15,000 through execution of 1110 challans against violation of Covid Appropriate Behaviour and traffic violation, said the DC and informed that Churachandpur police has made seizure of 8.392 kg of heroin, 150.728 kg of raw opium, 2 kg of marijuana, 329 grams of brown sugar and 615 numbers of WY tablets.
He further stated that a total of 285 acres of poppy plantation were destroyed, 28 illegal Kenbo bikes seized and handed over to the customs department.
He appreciated the district police as Churachandpur traffic police has come up with an innovative solution to the insufficient barricades for the road approach by setting up bamboo barricades made by their own personnel.
Under forest department, the area covered in year 2021 22 under plantation of community, private and forest lands was 600 hectares under various schemes and a total of 4,71,250 seedlings were raised in nurseries with 1,75,000 seedlings distributed to the public covering 178 villages and around 480 beneficiaries during Vana Mahotsava, 2021 which in itself is a milestone record for Churachandpur forest division, the DC further said.
The deputy commissioner said that with a motive to serve people through implementing developmental works and delivering fast and efficient service the ADCC office has been rendering self less efforts since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic by cleaning and disinfecting Covid Care Centres, important public offices and places; strengthening the Solid Waste Management System; maintenance and shingling of existing roads covering all areas under ADC Churachandpur; construction of five new barracks type teacher quarters and two new school buildings with an aim to provide better infrastructure for teachers and student community within Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts.
Emphasizing on the importance of Covid vaccination, DC Pawan Yadav said that vaccines are the best possible protection science offers to mankind and urged all eligible citizens to get vaccinated at the earliest and inspire others.
He stated that the first PSA oxygen plant of 200 LPM capacity was inaugurated on May 26, 2021, adding that Churachandpur district currently has two Covid Care Centres - one at Lingsiphai, Lanva TD block with a capacity of 46 beds and a new Covid Care Centre at Churachandpur Govt College with a present capacity of 210 beds apart from the District Hospital Isolation Ward, enhanced from 20 to 54 beds in June 2021.Churachandpur has got its first medical college which will provide the best medical facilities to the people of Churachandpur and neighbouring districts and states.
Dignitaries who attended the event included SP (Churachandpur) Shivanand Surve; CO 1st IRB Lunkhomang Khongsai; Esther Laltankim Serto, DFO Churachandpur; DLOs and CSOs.
A Covid vaccination booth was also opened on the sidelines of the celebration.
The celebration was also held across the district - at Sub-divisional headquarters and villages where the national flag was hoisted.
