Imphal, September 15 2022:
Even as the agitation in pursuance of the demand for according ST status to Meetei-Meitei community continues, Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) has expressed strong condemnation of the 40 MLAs in the valley for their silence over the issue.
On Thursday, STDCM along with different CSOs, clubs and Meira Paibi groups organised a sit-in protest demonstration near Manipur University gate.
Speaking at the protest site, STDCM youth wing co-convenor Chingshubam Manglemton decried that all the 40 MLAs in the valley are remaining silent even though the ongoing protest for ST demand has completed three weeks.
The committee strongly condemns the silence of the 40 MLAs despite understanding the seriousness of the issue, he said, while asking if they are not willing to protect the Meetei-Meitei community.
Governments of other states are doing everything to protect their indigenous population and yet the government of Manipur is ignoring the issue.
STDCM will continue the sit-in protest till the end of September after which it will launch different forms of protest with the support of CSOs, Meira Paibi organisations, local clubs and the general public if the government continue to ignore the matter, he added.
