Consultative meet on drugs, HIV commences

Imphal, February 15 2018:
A two-day consultative meeting on Drugs and HIV being organised by Indian Harm Reduction Network-Manipur (IHRN-Man) commenced today at Hotel Yaiphaba, Thangal Bazar, Imphal West.
Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar; Education Minister Th Radheshyam and Dr Samiran Panda, Director, National AIDS Research Institute (NARI) Pune attended the inaugural function as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Jayantakumar maintained that one should not mete out indifferent attitude towards people living with HIV/AIDS and drug addicts.
He said that they should be brought to the mainstream to ensure that they also live life like any normal person.
The Minister made an observation that there is a need to enact a policy that would curb smuggling of drugs into the State and control drug abuse amongst the youth.
Volunteer of (IHRN-Man), Umesh Hidangmayum also spoke at the occasion.
