Kangpokpi, February 15 2015:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the alleged killing of Khupneilal Neihsiel and Robert Hesei Kipgen at Kadangband on January 28 by 8 Assam Rifles has resolved to impose economic blockade along the National Highway No.2 for five days with effect from February 18 .
In a press statement, Thangminlen Haokip, Convener and Lunmang, Secretary of the JAC on Sunday said that in resentment over the state Government's failure to table the magisterial inquiry report in 15 days' time, the JAC has been compelled to impose economic blockade from February 18 .
The JAC along with other Kuki civil bodies had demanded a Magisterial Inquiry report within 15 days over the alleged Kadangband fake encounter killing in which a civilian driver Khupneilal Neihsiel, who was also the Vice President of Kuki Inpi Twibul Lhang (Kangchup Area) and Robert Hesei Kipgen, Central Administrative Officer (CAO) of KNF, a SoO signatory were shot to dead and three others fatally injured.
The JAC had made it clear to the Government to furnish the inquiry report within the reasonable time of 15 days but the Government has miserably failed to establish the veracity of the fake encounter, the statement said.
The JAC had contemplated a state-wide general strike but in view of the ensuing HSLC and HSE Examinations, it has instead decided to resort to economic blockade so as to ensure smooth conduct of the examination.
JAC and the Kuki civil bodies had opted for Magisterial Inquiry in lieu of Judicial with a view for immediate commencement and early culmination of the inquiry but the Government has remained silent on this matter.
The nature of the killing incident requires swift delivery of justice since an innocent civilian driver and a CAO of a SoO Signatory of Kuki armed organization were killed in a "fake" encounter, the statement added.
