Mortal remains laid to rest, SIT formed for probe

The mortal remains of Thotreichan Kashung (31) and Naosomi Lungleng (29) were laid to rest amid public mourning at their native place Sinakeithei village on Tuesday.
Sources said that the mortal remains were collected from JNIMS morgue around 4 pm Tuesday and were laid to rest around 6 pm .
Their bodies had been deposited to the hospital for autopsy since recovery of the same on August 8 last.
An understanding between the state government and the newly constituted Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the murder was reached during a joint meeting held at the CM's bungalow on the murder case on Monday, The meeting was attended by CM N Biren, Chingai MLA Khashim Vashum, former deputy speaker MK Preshaw Shimray, IGP IK Muivah and Sinakeithei Village chairman Kachang Phungmi and villag ers along with the JAC.
For over a month, the public had refused to collect the bodies, demanding justice and immediate arrest of the culprits responsible for the twin murder.
According to convener Yurthing Kasar, CM Biren announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the two victims and a government job each to next of kin of the deceased.
He said that even as the bodies have been collected after an agreement with the state government, the stand of the JAC for arrest of the culprits and justice in th� case remained.
Meanwhile, CM Biren on Tuesday posted on his Facebook wall and highlighted the positive outcome of the meeting on the matter.
"After we came to an understanding, a Special Investigation Team under the chairmanship of IG (Intelligence) has been constituted with DIG (Range-II) and Special AIG (Housing) as members, to carry out investigations into the death of deceased," Biren wrote.
Mention may be made here that the two victims Thotre-ichan Kashung and Naosomi Lungleng of Sinakeithei village went missing on August 4 and their decomposed bodies were later found near the village gate in Ithang river banks on August 8, following which, family and relatives of the duo held protest demonstrations and also formed a JAC demanding for justice.
It also resolved not to claim the bodies until the culprits are nabbed.
