Imphal, September 11 2022:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) president Joychandra Konthoujam has said that Union minister of state for external affairs RK Ranjan and chief minister N Biren Singh should do the needful to protect the state's boundary and both must not forsake their responsibility on the matter.
The UCM president stated this on the sidelines of the annual 'Langban Heisoi' ritual conducted for the martyrs who laid down their lives while protecting territorial integrity of Manipur on June 18, 2001 at Kekrupat here on Sunday.
The ritual ceremony was attended by CSO leaders and family members of the martyrs.
Joychandra Konthoujam told media persons that the protracted Indo-Myanmar border dispute must be resolved at the earliest while taking advantage of having a union minister from the state and BJP governments both at the Centre and in the state.
The advantage that the state is having at present might not come in future, he said and urged both the union minister and the chief minister to bring a resolution to the border dispute so that state's boundary upheld by forefathers of the land which include 398km long border with Myanmar be kept intact forever.
Let union minister RK Ranjan do what ever he can at his level and chief minister N Biren Singh also do whatever at his level to protect the state's boundary but they should not forsake their responsibility on the matter, Joychandra said.
While recalling the events which led to the June 18 Up rising in 2001 and why 18 brave souls sacrificed their lives for the motherland, the UCM president said that it is responsibility of the present generation to honour the martyrs and translate their dreams into reality.
Had the 18 souls not sacrificed their lives, the present Manipur could have been a different one, he added.
