Loitam Richard case: SFI to add more heat

The Students' Federation of India (SFI) is all set to infuse new lease of life to the ongoing agitations for bringing justice to Loitam Richard and give befitting punishment to those involved in the heinous crime.
Speaking to media persons at Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak today, Ritabratta Banerjee, General Secretary of SFI said that the student organization condemned the killing of Loitam Richard in the strongest terms and would leave no stone unturned in the effort to bring justice to Loitam Richard.
The student leader pointed out that SFI has also been launching agitation and MP from Kerala PK Biju, who is also the President of SFI, took up the case in the Parliament and pressed for bringing out the truth.
Observing that discriminatory attitude of mainland India towards the people of the North East still exists to this day; Ritabratta noted that the central government needs to come up with a specific Act which prohibits discrimination of the North Easterners by mainland India.
Salam Pari, Secretary of SFI State Council, who was also present at the press conference, informed that 17 members of SFI, Manipur State Council including the President and Secretary have been selected during the 8th SFI Manipur State Conference which was held yesterday.
The conference also adopted 14 resolutions.
They included repeal of AFSPA from Manipur and other parts of North East; to bring out the truth behind the killing of Loitam Richard and to press the concerned to hand over the case to CBI; to institute a separate Education Policy of Manipur; to bring out a policy to give extra opportunities to the minorities and weaker sections of the society and to establish a Manipur State School, College Commission.
He further informed that failure of meeting the demands of the SFI by the concerned authority may compelled SFI to take recourse to intense agitation.
A memorandum highlighting the demands of SFI has also been handed over to the Governor, the Chief Minister, the Education Minister and the Chief Secretary of Manipur, he added.
