Tribal delegates urge governor intervention to any move for passing of new ILPS related bill

Imphal, September 09 2016: Delegates from the Outer Manipur Tribals' Forum (OMTF) and the Joint Action Committee Against Anti-tribal bill (JAC) today submitted a memorandum to the governor of Manipur urging her to intervene any move by the state government for introduction of new ILPS related bill.

The outer Manipur Tribals' Forum is a conglomerate of Hmar Inpui, Mizo People Convention, Thadou Inpi, United Naga Council and Zomi Council.

In a press statement the delegates of the two tribal apex body called on the Governor of Manipur Najma Heptulla at Raj Bhavan here in Imphal today and submitted the memorandum.

During the meeting which lasted for around hour today, the delegates detailed the political marginalisation and development exclusion faced by the Indigenous Tribal people in Manipur.

They urged for finding a solution that is sustainable and acceptable to the tribal.

Issue of the nine dead bodies in the wake of the passing of the 3 ILPS related bills by the state government was also brought up to the notice of the governor.

In the memorandum it is mentioned that the tribal peoples will not accept any new bill or resolution unless appropriate and satisfactory steps taken towards the total nullification of the two pending anti tribal bills, and unless the matter of the nine tribal martyrs are resolved to the satisfaction of the tribal people in Manipur.

The representation also stressed that with the three anti-tribal bills being political in nature.
