Imphal, August 09, 2014:
In its effort to facilitate public welfare in Chandel district, Anal Lenruwl Tangpi (Anal Naga Students Union), Chandel undertook a two-day long visit beginning August 3 to Sulam area covering more than 10 (ten) villages with the objective of finding out the available facilities related to education, health and environment sector.
A press note of the students' body pointed out that roads were muddy and not workable due to heavy rainfall, while the school children suffered hardships from lack of necessary educational facilities.
Sulam area comprises many tribal villages bordering Myanmar and infrastructure development in the area is almost negligible.
Despite having advantages of trade activities, the state government has not recognized the potentiality of the actual beneficiaries, the statement said.
It is disheartening to witness how the Education Department runs the administration of the schools in the area, the students body lamented, while pointing out that teachers posted at the remote villages do not attend schools.
The state government needs to enforce regulation for effective management of schools to ensure that children attend classes, the statement added.
It also pointed out that implementation of Midday meal schemes are far cry for the schools in the remote villages of Sulam area.
It is time to work out mechanism by seeking the cooperation from the public and implement all schemes effectively for the welfare and benefits of the next generation, it said.
In the health sector too, these villages suffer most due to non-functioning of health centres.
The primary health sub center at Larong (Ralruwng) village is non-functional as medical staff like a chowkidar, pharmacist, nurses and doctors are absent all the time.
Although the medical directorate gives postings, many staffs do not turn up at the centre.
The public have to carry any sick person upto Chandel district hospital, informed the statement, while adding that irregular power supply also causes lots of hurdles for any development work in the area.
