2.66L receive 1st dose, more than half waiting for second

Since the start of Covid-19 vaccination programme in the state from January 16 till 6 pm of Sunday, a total of 2,66,081 persons have received their first dose of vaccine, out of which only 75,616 have been jabbed for the second time.
As per Covid-19 vaccination coverage report, 35,819 health care workers, 76,787 frontline workers, 93,255 people between the age of 45 to 59 and 60,220 above the age of 60 have been vaccinated till Sunday with first dose.
The second dose of vaccination has covered 23,979 health care workers, 47,338 frontline workers, 2671 people between 45-59 and 1628 above 60 years of age.
District wise, first dose has been given to 20,425 people in Bishnupur district; 9448 in Chandel; 24,851 in Chura-chandpur; 60,321 in Imphal East; 65,581 in Imphal West; 4387 in Jiribam; 13,135 in Kakching; 2238 in Kamjong; 7520 in Kangpokpi; 4398 in Noney; 2942 in Pherzwal; 5094 in Senapati; 5020 in Tamenglong; 5234 in Teng-noupal; 29,176 in Thoubal and 6311 in Ukhrul district.
Second dose of vaccination has been provided to 4377 in Bishnupur district; 4153 in Chandel; 6324 in Churachandpur; 13,429 in Imphal East; 22,251 in Imphal West; 1933 in Jiribam; 2310 in Kakching; 939 in Kamjong; 2046 in Kangpokpi; 2014 in Noney; 659 in Pherzawl; 2553 in Senapati; 1825 in Tamenglong; 2741 in Tengnoupal; 5468 in Thoubal and 2594 in Ukhrul district.
Interestingly, news agencies reported wastage of 3.56 per cent of the total vaccine allotted to Manipur.
Among the states and union territories, Lakshadweep, Haryana and Assam for the second consecutive day on Sunday maintained their position among top 10 states for the maximum loss of Covid vaccines amid the crisis when the country is passing through a shortage of the medicine necessary to keep people safe from the deadly virus.
Amidst increasing Covid-19 vaccine demands in the country, wastage of the key injection has been a matter of concern for the government with reports of highest 22.74 per cent wastage reported in Lakshadweep till 8 am on Sunday.
The Union Territory reportedly wasted 22 per cent Covid vaccines till Saturday 8 am .
After Lakshadweep, Haryana accounts for the second highest state with wastage of 6.65 per cent Covid vaccines followed by Assam (6.07 per cent), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's (MoHFW) latest data said.
Rajasthan has reported 5.50 per cent wastage of Covid vaccine, Punjab reports 5.05 per cent and Bihar recorded 4.96 per cent wastage of Covid vaccines.
Dadra and Nagar Haveli reported 4.93 per cent Covid vaccine wastage followed by Meghalaya (4.21 per cent), Tamil Nadu (3.94 per cent) and Manipur (3.56 per cent).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself took the issue of wastage of Covid vaccine very seriously, and requested people three days ago through his Twitter to "reduce vaccine wastage to strengthen the fight against Covid-19", the agencies recalled.
The nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive was started on January 16 for the healthcare workers.
The country had launched its third phase of the vaccination drive on May 1 for people aged between 18-44 years.
As per the official data, the Centre has so far provided more than 17.56 crore vaccine doses (17,56,20,810) to states and UTs free of cost.
Of this, the total consumption including wastages is 16,83,78,796 doses.
The total number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered stands at 16,94,39,663, according to the Union Health Ministry.
