Imphal, September 06 2019:
Following an uproar over serving unhygienic food items (in which even maggots were found) at the mess of RIMS men's hostel, RIMS authority has cancelled all agreements they signed with two private firms for preparing and serving food at the men's hostel.
Acting on a complaint lodged by MBBS students on Tuesday regarding the lousy food items served at their mess, RIMS authority constituted a committee on the same day to look into the matter.
The committee, after investigation, submitted a report on the same day which confirmed that maggots or worms were found in food items and the surrounding area of the mess was quite filthy.
Acting on the report, RIMS authority issued an order on September 4 whereby it terminated all services of two private firms engaged for preparing and serving food to RIMS hostellers, informed a source.
The two firms have been identified as M/S Sana Food and M/S Trig Guard Force, and one Konsam Priyobarta owns both the firms.
RIMS authority signed an agreement with M/S Sana Food on July 16, 2013 followed by another agreement with M/S Trig Guard Force on January 29, 2015 .
The order issued on September 4 notified both the firms to leave RIMS hostels within two days along with all their belongings.
Notably, RIMS students raised an uproar and tried to storm the institute's administrative block on September 3 for serving unhygienic and lousy food at their mess.
