State records highest success rate in four years

The results of the Higher Secondary Examination (HSE)-2022, conducted by Council of Higher Secondary Education (CoHSEM), were declared on Monday recording a pass percentage of around 90 percent, the highest in the state in the last 4 years.
Altogether 28,166 candidates (Arts-8082, Science-19519, Commerce-565) appeared in the examination, out of which 25,375 candidates passed.
Of this, 10,530 passed in first division 37.8 pc), 12,837 in second division 45.57pc), 1865 in third division 6.62 pc) and 22 were simple pass 0.78pc) .
Only 14 out of the 16 districts had 118 examination venues for 44 subjects.
As Kamjong only had 4 students appearing in the examination, and Pherzawl 4, both districts did not have any examination centres.
The pass percentage for this year's examination was the highest with around 90.09 pc.
In 2018, the pass percentage was around 67 pc, in 2019 around 73 pc, in 2020 around 86 pc, while in 2021, the candidates were given promotion due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The pass percentage of government schools stood at 89.23 pc, while that of private schools was at 90.28 pc.
Except for the 4th position holder (Arts) Linthoingambi Thongram of TG Higher Secondary School, none of the government schools were able to secure any of the top positions in all three streams.
Meanwhile, Enlighten Knowledge (EK) Higher Secondary, Sangakpam achieved a huge feat by bagging 19 of the top 20 positions in Arts Stream.
In Arts stream, EK's Golmei Gaihemmei d/o Gangmei Akashini Kabuini and G Katazinpou of Langthabal Khoupum bagged the first position; Raniya Soibam d/o Waikhom Pratima Devi and Soibam Biramani Singh of Arapti Awang Leikai secured the second position; and Naorem Jessica Devi d/o Naorem Aruni Devi and Naorem Hemanta Singh Kakching Ningthou Leikai, came in third place.
For Science stream, Xtra Edge School, Ghari student Rahul Naorem s/o Athokpam Shantibala Devi and Naorem Jibol Singh of Arapti Mayai Leikai secured the first po sition; while Millennium Institute of Sciences, Sagolband student Kshetrimayum Rajshree d/o Tourangbam Shantibala and Kshetrimayum Brojen Singh of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai, and Herbert School, Changangei student Wairokpam Anupriya Devi d/o Wairokpam Ongbi Anita Devi and Wairokpam Chandrakumar Singh of Thoubal Bazar Makha bagged second and third position respectively.
In this stream, Xtra Edge School, Ghari secured four of the 10 top positions, while Millennium Institute of Sciences had one and Herbert School six among the top 10 achievers.
New Era Higher Secondary School, Thoubal and Comet School, Changangei also had one each position holder.
For Commerce stream, SDJM Higher Secondary School, Paona Bazar student Abujam Anjali Devi d/o Abujam (O) Sarda Devi and Abujam Romen Singh of Langthabal Man-trikhong Makha Leikai came in first position; VK Tawna College, Lamka, Churachandpur student Niangbiaklun d/o Khualching and Chinkhanlal of Sahei Road, V Munhoih second; and SDJM, Paona Bazar student Tong-bram Luxmi Devi d/o Tongbram Sobita Devi and Dhaneshwara Singh of Tuliyaima Mani Urak Leikai Malom secured third position.
The fourth position was secured by Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Maram student Chandani Thapa d/o Maya Thapa and Deepak Thapa of Maram Bazar, Senapati; while the fifth position went to SDJM student Palmei Lungaiphun s/o Palmei Kashangailu and Palmei Sanabung of Namthanlong, Thangmeiband.
Declaring the results, education minister Th Basanta Singh informed that the state government has begun taking up steps to provide quality education to the students of Manipur, including programmes to impart education aside from bookish knowledge.
One such programme will be teaching the students about culture, moral science and other topics every Saturday.
Students will not carry school bags on this day, he added.
Further informing that a pilot project is already being initiated with regard to the above under a policy, the education minister said that the works to be taken up by the education department to rectify the existing education system will be announced in the upcoming month.
Additionally, prominent personalities will be adopting government schools and visiting the same from time to time to impart life lessons, he conveyed.
