Imphal, March 30 2023:
Lamyanba Irabot Memorial Integrated Trust organised an anti-drug campaign cum awareness programme under the theme 'Erei-chasing Meekap Thoklasi' at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday.
The awareness programme was attended by SP Imphal East Ksh Shivakanta as chief guest, All Manipur Kanba Ima Lup president Lourembam Nganbi as president and UCM president Jaychandra Konthoujam as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Ksh Shivakanta affirmed that Manipur police is joining the ongoing movement to uproot drugs with non-compromising spirit.
Drugs have no differentiation of caste and creed and it has badly hit the Manipuri society.
In view of this, the state government launched 'War on Drugs' to uproot drugs from the society and extensive drives to destroy poppy plantation are underway with the support of people.
As a result of unabated drive against drugs by police with non compromising spirit, there has been report of drug seizure and destruction of poppy plantation almost daily, he reasoned.
According to Ksh Shivakanta, drug traders adopt various tactics in transportation of contraband items and it is not an easy task for the police to arrest them and seize drugs.
However, due to overwhelming support from the people and their active participation in anti-drug drives, police nowadays get information from people in time and able to seize drugs.
He also informed the gathering that police are facing issues in destruction of poppy plants grown on sloppy hills but such obstacle do not deter police from executing their task of destroying the illegal plants.
While stating that there are drug abusers in every locality and dissociating them from the society is not the solution as they have to be rehabilitated, Shivakanta said that mainstreaming drug abusers take time and merely putting them at rehabilitation centre for one month is not the solution.
