'Govt schools need image building exercises'

Education Minister Th Radheshyam and CAF & PD Minister Karam Shyam, who is also the MLA of Langthabal AC today inspected Lilong Higher Secondary School and Chajing Kangjeibung Govt Junior High School in Langthabal A/C .
Th Radheshyam and Karam Shyam first inspected Lilong Higher Secondary School and heard the grievances of the teachers.
The staff and teachers of the school urjed the Minister to look into their infrastructural needs including toilets and washrooms for the female staff.
Education Minister assured the Principal and the teachers of the school that all the infrastructural needs will be fulfilled as soon as possible.
Th Radheshyam said that it is unfortunate that almost after 70 years of Independence, there is not a single Government college building in the State which is in good condition.
Addressing the teachers that to compete with the private schools, a target should be set�to have two Higher Secondary Schools with adequate infrastructure so that in 5 years, 10 Government schools can compete with private schools in the State.
The Minister sought cooperation from the teachers to make Government schools an attractive and prospective option for every parent/ guardian.
He also said the maximum amount of the State income is drained outside the State in health and education sector.
He called upon all the stakeholders to strengthen health and education sectors to keep the money inside the State.
Speaking to media persons after inspecting Chajing Kangjeibung Govt Junior High School, Th Radheshyam said that in Manipur the teacher-students ratio is 1:6 which is at par with the global standard.
Despite the availability of adequate teachers, the Government schools are unable to produce top scoring students in the State.
He also called upon the teachers to introspect on why parents are enrolling their wards at expensive private schools, despite Government schools having qualified and talented teachers.
Radheshyam urged the Principal, teachers and the staff to set a target to produce top scoring students from Lilong Higher Secondary School.
He said teachers and students should focus to produce quality students.
The Minister also said they are thinking of making a policy to amalgamate Government schools.
CAF&PD Minister Karam Shyam said that Lilong Higher Secondary School is among the oldest and prestigious schools in area stretching from Lilong to Singjamei.
In the past, the school had produced many brilliant and talented students.
However the school is in a desperate condition and needs immediate attention from the Education Department.
The Minister also called upon the teachers to regain the faith and trust of parents and guardians in Government schools.
He also called upon local leaders and volunteers to help in bringing a positive change in the education system in Government schools.
