Court rejects NIA's plea to shift RK Meghen in Tihar

Guwahati, September 26 2011:
The NIA Special Court today rejects the petition of the NIA to shift UNLF ChairmanRK Sanayaima to the Tihar Jail in New Delhi from the Guwahati Jail.
It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Home Affairs on July 26 asked the jail authority of Guwahati Jail to transfer RK Sanayaima to Tihar Jail.
Following the application of the Ministry, the jail authority of Guwahati Jail where the UNLF chairman is being kept reported to the NIA special court.
NIA counsel DK Das told the court that Sanayaima is still operating from inside the jail.
If he is transferred to Tihar Jail, the influences he made against the witnesses will be reduced.
Counsel of Sanayaima Moirangthem Gunadhor told the court that transfer of an under-trial prisoner from a jail to another jail is not permissible under the Transfer of Prisoner Act 1950 .
The allegations made by the NIA over RK Sanayaima are baseless.
Moreover Sanayaima did not commit any unlawful activities during his stay in the Guwahati Jail.
After hearing arguments of both counsels, Justice AK Das rejected the plea of NIA to transfer the UNLF Chairman from Guwahati Jail to Tihar Jail.
