Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South), recovered contraband items and brown sugar at separate spots today.
A team of Assam Rifles recovered the contraband items at around 6 am at Sita-Lipham Khullen track junction in Tengnoupal district.
Suspicious movement of Kenbo bikes were spotted by the troops on the Sita-Lipham Khullen track-junction and on being challenged, the Kenbo bikers left behind their smuggled items and fled from the scene, a statement of IGAR said.
On carrying out thorough checking, 2 cartons of imported cigarettes worth Rs 3 lakh, 8 cartons of Godzilla mosquito coils worth Rs 64,000 and 150 kg of betel nuts worth Rs 90,000 were recovered.
The total recovery was worth Rs 4,54,000 approximately, as per international market value, it said while adding that the recovered items have been handed over to the Customs Preventive Post, Pallel for further action.
Meanwhile, troops of Tengnoupal Battalion recovered items suspected to be brown sugar at Mobile Vehicles Check Post (MVCP) Tengnoupal at around 12 pm today.
In all 11 packets of suspected brown sugar worth Rs 28 lakh in international market were found hidden when the AR troop stopped an Eeco van travelling towards Imphal and conducted a search, said a statement.
The occupant of the van (driver), identified as Letkhokai Haokip (25) of K Monnaphai village, Tuibong TD Block, Churachandpur has been handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau, Imphal for further investigations, the statement continued.
