'Learning Hindi advantageous for students'

There is nothing about Hindi imposition till class X or forcible learning of the language in the state but it will be advantageous for students of Manipur in getting acquainted with multiple languages, stated education minister Th Basanta Singh.
Speaking at the 17th Foundation Day of Mega Manipur School cum felicitation of class X and XII students of the school on Tuesday, Th Basanta pointed out that the Central government is yet to issue any official order for making Hindi compulsory till class X standard in the state though Union home minister Amit Shah had mentioned about this in public speech sometime back.
However, there is nothing wrong in learning a new language as this will be advantageous for students of the state, he reiterated, adding that Hindi learning can be done just as our students are learning Chinese and Japanese languages.
While maintaining that there is no point of suppressing Manipuri language while learning Hindi, the education minister said that Manipuri remains one the languages for competitive examinations conducted by UPSC.
According to Th Basanta Singh, syllabus under the National Education Policy (NEP) is to be made with 30 percent local context and discussion with chief minister N Biren Singh was held about contents of local context to be incorporated.
He also assured of providing exposure to state students so that they could compete at international level and acquire holistic educational knowledge.
He then urged teachers to talk to students at least five minutes to enhance moral of the students before taking class while maintaining that the real meaning of education is to develop students as future pillars of the society.
The event was also attended by Mega Manipur Society BOG chairperson RK Nimai, Mega Manipur Society BOG secretary Wangkheimayum Dinesh and school's SMC chairperson RK Kishor.
