Imphal, September 23 2015 :
The 80th foundation day of Aryan Theatre was celebrated on Wednesday at the theatre's hall at Wahengbam Leikai.
The function began by paying floral tributes to the late senior artists of the theatre.
Arts and Culture Secretary Kangjam Radhakumar (IAS) and president of Aryan Theatre Arambam Lokendro attended the function as chief guest and president respectively while Sahitya Sevak Purushkar, Hijam Romoni, Natya Bhushan, Oinam Birmango and Natya Bhushan, Kshetrimayum Ibohal were the guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Kangjam Radhakumar said that the Aryan Theatre was established in 1935 at Meino Leirak, but later it was shifted to Wahengbam Leikai in Imphal West.
Aryan Theatre, Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) and Rup Mahal were once the three pillars of theatre in the State, said Radhakumar and added that only the artists can reinstate the lost images of these three theatres.
Manipur has an important place in the international arena in the field of theatre and dance and the fact that the world recognizes Manipur by its culture and sports is because of the sacrifices and feats of various artists and a number of talented sportspersons of the State, added Radhakumar.
Ksh Ibohal said that erstwhile artists always had natural acts and everything looked lively and their pure acts made them live artists.
But today, it seems that most of the artists do not have the quality, added Ibohal.
