Online conclave on combating coronavirus held

The Research and Development Cell of Fit India Campaign Committee and Fit India Club, Manipur University on Wednesday organised a one-day online conclave on "Combating Corona: The Ethical Issues and Response".
In a statement, Conclave convenor Dr L Biswanath Sharma informed that during the virtual event, general secretary of Indian Red Cross Society Manipur State Branch Dr RK Nimai Singh moderated the panel discussion which was attended by department of Life Sciences MU retired Prof G Jitendra Sharma, Indian Red Cross Society Manipur State Branch chairman Prof Y Mohen Singh, Philosophy Dept MU Prof (Retd) S Lokendrajit Singh, inner Manipur MP Dr RK Ranjan Singh, Shija Hospitals and Research Institute chairman Dr Palin Khundongbam and guest panellists MU Biotechnology Dept HOD Prof L Sanjukumar Singh and head of Psychiatry Dept RIMS, Dr RK Lenin Singh.
MP Ranjan shared the view of establishing a dedicated hospital for virus and communicable diseases and further opined that people must be follow SOPs all the time and participate in the vaccination campaign while Dr Palin cautioned that the death rate is still high and stressed the need to enhance production of medical oxygen to avert unwanted consequences due to shortage of the same.
"We cannot depend on external sources of oxygen as landslide and other calamities may hamper the transportation," he said.
Dr Palin further pointed out the need for moral and psychological support to the health care workers and front line warriors.
Private COVID vaccination programme which was stopped since May 1 is now ready to start, he said.
Deliberating on the need to maintain confidentiality of the positive list, Dr RK Lenin described as very unfortunate that results are made viral on the social media.
It is quite unethical and such random dissemination of the confidential report might lead to misinformation and fear mongering, he added.
The consensus opinion of the panellist of the workshop was to initiate a Collaborative Research Work to respond to any cases of pandemic in the future.
The programme was also attended by MU VC in-charge Prof S Sanatombi Singhs, research officer of EMMRC Manipur University Dr Chandam Be-tholia and Dr L Bishwanath Sharma among others.
