Blind school students take out procession

Students and teachers of the Mission Blind School, Heikakpokpi, Chandel on Monday took out a protest rally in the scorching heat shouting slogans against the apathy of the government to their demand.
They are demanding recognisation of their school and to upgrade it into a full fledged government institution.
The students were marching towards Chief Minister office however; they were blocked at Nupi Lal Memorial Complex gate by the Police.
Meanwhile, Mission Blind School Students Union Secretary W Angkham said that the State has remained mute to their cries despite repeated verbal assurance from all levels including Chief Minister.
The students had resumed their agitations since June 23 and will be continuing the agitations until their demands are made, said Angkham.
After an hour of detention the Police allowed four member representatives led by Principal K Pareng Kom to meet with the local MLA DK Korungthang in his quarters.
The MLA verbally assured to help them to meet with the Chief Minister O Ibobi after the ILP impasse.
But the students were hearty for neglecting their demands by the government.
It may be mentioned that Mission Blind School is the only operating blind institute in all the five hill districts of Manipur since February 2003 .
At present there are 55 students and 13 teachers in their institute without charge any fees from our students.
The school has been surviving on NGOs and public donation facing various hardships of both food and other basic needs.
Assam Rifle has assisted them since 2005, however the institute facing acute resource constraint and have not been able to pay our teachers for five years.
