Imphal, November 19 2020:
Daughter of Governor Dr Najma Heptulla, Asma Heptulla visited the roosting site of the Amur Falcons at Chiulon today morning and watched the birds.
Tamenglong District Forest Officer Kh Hitler and other officials of the Forest Department accompanied the Governor's daughter on her visit.
Asma Heptulla had reached Chiulon village yesterday and rested the night before she visited the roosting site of the migratory birds today morning.
On her visit, residents of Chiulon village greeted and gave her a warm welcome.
Significantly, Chiulon village, Puching and Phalong villages in Tamenglong district are resting places for the Amur Falcons before they migrate to Africa to spend the winter season.
Recently, two satellite radio transmitters tagged Amur Falcons, Chiulon and Irang had reached Chiulon village from Northern China where they usually breed.
The two birds spent around 20 days in Chiulon village and migrated towards Somalia.
Both the birds crossed Arabian sea and reached Somalia after nonstop flights for 5 days recently.
It may be mentioned that the two birds are among several Amur Falcons fitted with the satellite radio transmitters to study their migratory patterns.
Unfortunately, the Forest Department and Wildlife Institute of India have lost contacts with all the other birds except Chiulon and Irang.
