Brothers in crime held for forging

Two brothers who forged letterheads and seals of Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) and registered with the trade union, were nabbed by a team of Imphal PS today.
The two individuals have been identified as Laishram Chandrakumar (president) of Kwakeithel Heinoukhongnembi Thokchom Leikai and his brother Laishram Ratankumar (secretary) .
They are supposedly businessmen and they were operating a team comprising-of 17 individuals.
The two individuals were produced before the Court of CJM Imphal West and remanded to police custody till July 22 .
Speaking to media persons at TDC office at MG Avenue today, its president H Ranjit said that an organisation called Highway Truck Owners Welfare Organisation was found registered under the SR Act by Cooperative Registrar and its president and secretary, Laishram Chandrakumar and Ratankumar respectively, were found registering at the trade union with forged letterheads and seals of TDC on June 6.Pointing out that Highway Truck Owners Welfare Organisation had filed a petition against TDC regarding the construction of a weight bridge along Imphal-Jiribam road in the past, Ranjit said that the recent developments have shown that the said association is a scam.
He continued that TDC filed a complaint to the DGP on July 16 and accordingly, the two individuals were arrested and an FIR was also lodged against them at Imphal PS.
Ranjit expressed gratitude to the DGP, Imphal West PS and the OC of Imphal PS for taking swift action regarding the case.
He further appealed to the authorities concerned to arrest the remaining 17 individuals who make up the association for tarnishing the image and reputation of the TDC.
Informing that TDC was formed in 2003, H Ranjit said that TDC has been working tirelessly all these years for the welfare of the people.
In 2010, after Imphal-Dimapur road became impossible for travel, the transport organisations comprising TDC, began plying along Imphal-Jiribam road without any fear despite the deplorable condition of the route.
Back then, due to the failure of the Government and BRO to do anything to improve the road, TDC shelled out almost Rs 1 crore to make the road serviceable for the vehicles.
On August 6, 2010, trains began bringing in rice to Jiribam which was due to the intense pressure piled by TDC on the Central Government, he claimed adding that TDC has been filing many PILs for the improvement of the Imphal-Jiriba,m road as well.
