44 AR attacked; PREPAK (Pro) claims responsibility

Imphal, January 18 2015:
Heavily armed cadres belonging to an underground outfit laid an ambush on a patrolling party of 44 Assam Rifles at an area between Nambisa and Kampak Khunou under Chassad Police Station, Ukhrul district by exploding Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and firing on Sunday around 6.40 am.
It is said that the AR troops also retaliated the attack.
There was no injury inflicted on the patrolling team.
Meanwhile, the outlawed People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive), PREPAK (Pro) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to a statement issued by Melei, Senior Publicity Officer of PREPAK, the attack was carried out by a team of Cobra Task Force II of the outfit.
Melei further said that while a team of Cobra Task Force I of the outfit was responsible for the attack on 40 Assam Rifles post at Lilong, Thoubal district on January 11 last as well as on a patrolling team of 2 Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry at Ngangkha Lawai, Bishnupur district on January 17 last around 1.55 pm.
The armed outfit cautioned the people against staying closer to security forces as such attack may be carried out any time.
