Puwarigi Amamba Numit observed

Recalling burning of Meetei Puyas in front of Kangla Uttra on this day in 1731 by Hindu preacher Shantidas Gossai during the time of King Pamheiba, the 8th Puwarigi Amamba Numit was observed under the aegis of All Clubs, Organisations, Association, Organisations and Meira Paibi Lup (ACAOM-Lup), Kangleipak at GM Hall here today.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Dean of Central Agriculture University Naorem Iboton observed that after the incident of burning the Puyas, the historical legacy of the people have been erased almost entirely and this particular incident is a testimony to the fact how the people could suffer from taking wrong step and decision.
After the Puyas have been destroyed, the relationship between the hill and the valley people has also become strained till today.
In spite of all these setbacks, the valley people have been trying to renew the relationship with their brethren in the hills.
But the people in the hills have not reciprocated the effort, the Chief Guest said.
In his address as guest of honour of the function, President of FRIENDS Sapamcha Jadumani said that in spite of the increase in the number of educated people in Manipur, none of them seem to care how Manipur has come down to its present enslaved status and continue to incline towards committing the same blunder.

Presided over by President of ACOAM-Lup Indrakumar, Padmashree awardee A Tomba Meetei, Advisor of IPSA H Ibotombi, President of MAPI Council Manihar and President of Kanglalei Leirik Leima, President of Nupi Samaj Th Ramani Leima, President of CLK Tampak Leima, President of Kangleichal Ayang Leima and President of KSA Pradipkumar were also present at the occasion as guests of honour.
As part of the observance, a procession was also taken out from GM Hall to in front of Kangla Uttra where rites and rituals were performed.
On the other hand, Pradhan of Lamjaotongba Gram Panchayat Sumanta Meetei has maintained that the problems afflicting Manipur today could be resolved easily if all the communities understand the historical legacy and understand the importance of unity among them.
He was speaking as chief guest at the occasion of Puya Meithaba Ningshing Numit organized by Western Arts, Social and Cultural Progressive Association at the hall Science Museum, Takyelpat today.
Sumanta pointed out that promotion of one's own culture, tradition and identity is very much essential and every community in Manipur should work towards this collectively.
Dr M Kaoba presided over the function which was also attended by many people including school students coming from different parts of the State.
Nongpok Chingkhei Inat Yokkhat Lup and Awang Chingkhei Apunba Ereibak Inat Knba Lup was also jointly observed Puwarigi Amamba Numit at Lamlai Bazar today along with organizing as recitation contest on patriotic theme.
The observance was attended by Chairperson of Lamlai Nagar Panchayat Ngangom Inao Meitei as chief guest while Presidents of Chief Editor of Ipak journal OC Meira, Samjetsabam Kondumba, manba Hanba and social activist Nabakumar as resource persons.
