Imphal, May 13 2014 :
With the traffic volume incessantly increasing on Thumbuthong bridge following the closure of Sanjenthong bridge, roads at Bamon Leikai area in Imphal East have been made bumpy and the eastern bearing of the bridge has broken as well.
Commuters from the twin capital districts of Imphal West and Imphal East are now taking Thumbuthong daily since the closure of Sanjethong, the primary bridge that links the two districts.
Concerning the matter, Youth's Club Brahmapur discussed the current bad condition of the roads along with Yaiskul constituency MLA E Chand and some officials of the PWD at Brahmapur Aribam Leikai in Imphal East on Tuesday last.
At the meeting, locals of Aribam Leikai and volunteers of the club apprised the local MLA and PWD officials about the potholed roads as well as the condition of the Thumbuthong bridge.
They said that amidst the increasing traffic volume, the bearing on the eastern side of Thumbuthong has been broken and there is apprehension that this bridge may collapse soon unless proper attention is given to it.
After the meeting, the MLA along with the PWD officials and the locals inspected the bridge and witnessed the broken bridge bearing.
Chand assured the locals that prompt steps will be taken to solve the public inconveniences after consulting with the Chief Minister and officials concerned of the PWD.
