Namshadai Gangmei remembered

The first settler of Langthabal Khoupum, Namshadai Gangmei was honoured and remembered today in an auspicious ceremony by erecting memorial pillar at Langthabal Khoupum under the aegis of Namshadai Gangmei Celebration Committee.
The ceremony was graced by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and Langthabal AC MLA Karam Shyam as the chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Dy CM Gaikhangam said the Zeliangrong people have played pivotal role in preserving the integrity of the State.
The sacrificial acts of the Zeliangrong people, of which the Kabuis are included, in organising rallies and facing arrest for the protection of the State's integrity showed their determination even to sacrifice their lives for the State, Gaikhangam said.
He also lauded the effort to erect a memorial pillar in honour of the first settler of Lanthabal Khoupum village.
MLA Karam Shyam said Khoupum village is a self-sufficient one except that it lacks drinking water source.
He promised to work out the problem in a short time.
Namshadai Gangmei first settled in the village in 1770-71 .
A souvenir was also released on the occasion.
