Imphal, July 11 2015 :
Former MLA Khumukcham Joykishan on Saturday stressed that it's imperative that the State Government value and understand the sentiment of the public if the smoldering ILP protest has to be snuffed out.
The death of one student, Sapam Robinhood over the demand for withdrawal of the controversial Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants and Migrant Workers Bill 2015 (MRVT & MW Bill), is really shocking, Joykishan said.
He said the public protest has been sparked by the Government's insistence on upholding the MRVT & MW Bill 2015 .
Had the bill passed after due consultation in the Assembly, the intensified protest would have been avoided, the MLA insisted.
"I also strongly suggested to the Government for referring the bill to the Select Committee before it was passed.
But it was ignored," he said.
Now that the ILP protest cannot be prevailed over by the Government and so the best way is to convene a special Assembly session and introduce a fresh bill, he suggested.
He said the Government should value and understand the sentiment of the public if the smouldering ILP protest has to be snuffed out.
