Farmers' rally against Land Acquisition Bill in Manipur

Joining the nation-wide protest to be staged by CPI along with its allied fronts and mass peasants' fronts, CPI Manipur State Council will also lead a farmers' rally and protest meeting on May 14 at Imphal.
This was announced by the Secretary M Nara of CPI Manipur State Council on Monday.
Terming the Land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill 2015 recently passed by the Lok Sabha as anti-farmer and pro-rich and pro-corporate, Nara said that this Bill will inflict a vicious blow to the farmer community and tribal people of the country, and will widen the gap of the rich and the poor.
He also said that the said Bill could not introduce in Rajya Sabha.
He said that the Land Acquisition Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha controversially with some biasness as the present Speaker Sumitra Mahajan is also a BJP-leader.
Apart from the main issue of the said Bill, Nara announced that the Imphal-leg of the protest will cover on various issues such as AFSPA, territorial integrity, border dispute with Myanmar, implementation of Food Security Act and problem of shortage of water supply, etc.
He also mentioned that many farmers and land-owners have been victimised he government had snatched their lands in the name of developmental projects such as expansion of Tulihal Airport, Jiri-Imphal rail line, expansion of Tiddim and Burma-Sugnu roads and the proposed plan to set up Imphal Ring Road.
M Nara appealed to all to support CPI in this protest and to join the rally and the meeting.
