Imphal, November 08 2021:
Contrary to the reports carried by some local dailies that Congress MLAs DK Korungthang, DD Thaisii and Ak Mirabai are likely to join BJP, Patsoi MLA Ak Mirabai said that Congress MLAs, including her, mentioned in newspaper reports would not join BJP at all.
Ak Mirabai told media persons at Imphal airport before leaving for New Delhi on Monday that the reports about some Congress MLAs including her, DK Korungthang and DD Thaisii defecting to BJP were baseless and she had telephonic talks with the MLAs mentioned in the newspaper reports and they confirmed that the reports were cent percent wrong.
There is no point of all the Congress MLAs mentioned in the newspaper reports joining BJP but there are some Congress MLAs who might jump ship and only time will tell about their fate, she clarified, while adding that no other Congress MLAs will join BJP.
Mirabai further told media persons that DK Korungthang and DD Thaisii informed her during telephonic talks that they would never leave Congress and that they would have joined BJP way back in July this year if they really intended to do so.
Mirabai also said that she is not a frog who could leave the beautiful ideology of Congress and join BJP and does not want to tarnish good image of Congress party.
"With firm belief in Congress ideology, I had been working for the party for the past 41 years," she said and appealed to all concerned not to spread rumour that she would be leaving Congress to join BJP.
Congress party is fully prepared to defeat BJP in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election and the party would return to power after the election, she said and appealed to people not to be disheartened as Congress party would bounce back for sure in the upcoming election.
Clarifying the reason for her New Delhi visit, Ak Mirabai said that the final hearing of the Supreme Court case pertaining to appointment of 12 ruling MLAs as parliamentary secretary is scheduled for Tuesday and her visit is related to the case and several other Congress MLAs too are heading to New Delhi for the case.
Prices of essential commodities, fuel and gas have skyrocketed during BJP government at the Centre thereby affecting poor people and Congress party always stood against the government which contradicts words and action, does not see suffering of the people, Mirabai said, adding that Congress party is fully prepared to put an end to all these sufferings.
