Imphal, December 06 2014 :
Manipur BJP has demanded an immediate CBI probe into the alleged failure in the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex renovation work for which the Centre sanctioned Rs 100 crore to the Manipur Government in 2012 under the 13th Finance Commission.
"We demand an immediate CBI probe into the Khuman Lampak Sports Stadium restoration work.
We also demand the Chief Minister, who is also in-charge of Youth Affairs & Sports (YAS), to clarify to the general public within five days on the blunder committed by his Government," state BJP president Th Chaoba demanded while addressing media at the party office on Saturday.
The Government should name the newspaper in which tender for the project was invited, Chaoba demanded, seeking clarification on whether the Government ever followed standard norm adopted by the CPWD.
He demanded that Government also name the farm that was assigned to take up the work.
Asking the exact role of MDS, Chaoba said the party thought MDS was registered as a society and it has nothing to do with activities like construction and hence the Government should explain the role of MDS in the state.
Out of the Rs 100 crore, Rs 75 crore is meant for sports infrastructure development for the sports complex and Rs 25 crore for recurring expenditure, the BJP leader said.
He said that under the project, the main stadium of the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex should be upgraded at the cost of Rs 28.82 crore and Rs 18.8 crore is meant improvement of Hockey Stadium, Rs 2.4 crore for Cycle Velodrome, Rs 14.63 for Aquatic Complex, Rs 2.71 crore for Indoor Stadium, Rs 0.29 crore for Shooting Range, Rs 0.29 crore for Kangshang, Rs 2.39 crore for Internal Road, Rs 1.1 crore for Compound Wall, Rs 49 lakh for electrification and Rs 60 lakh for Practice Field Pavilion and toilet facilities.
