Kpi bodies, Ccpur DM announce weeklong lockdown

In view of the alarming COVID pandemic situation in Kangpokpi town and suspected community transmission, local bodies have jointly decided to impose a complete lockdown in the town with effect from May 7 till May 13 .
Kangpokpi has witnessed disturbing surge in COVID infections and fatalities since the past few days.
With four more positive cases in last 24 hours and six recovery cases, the number of active cases in the district now stands at 63 while the death toll has reached 19.The decision of the local bodies including Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation and Kang-pokpi Youth Union was taken considering the public pressure in a joint meeting held with strict adherence to COVID guidelines on Thursday at KTC office.
A public notice issued after the meeting stated that a total lock-down was required to break the chain of suspected community transmission of the virus in the Covid-19 second wave.
It also informed all business establishments, transporters and general populace to strictly comply with the total lockdown.
However, government ofcials, law enforcement agencies, medical, power supply, fre brigade, gas agencies, pharmacies, water supply and media shall be exempted from the purview of the lockdown.
Meanwhile, a reliable source said that one more woman from Motbung in Kangpokpi district succumbed to COVID-19 on Turs-day.
However, there has not been any ofcial confrmation in this regard till the time of fling this report.
CCPUR: Worried over the rapid increase in the number of people infected with COVID-19, Churachandpur district administration on Tursday announced the entire district as a containment zone for seven days with immediate efect until further notice.
The decision was taken as the number of positive cases continued to rise unabated in the district.
On Tursday, Churachandpur district recorded another 45 new positive cases of coronavirus, and one more person succumbed to the virus.
During the lockdown period, all activities and movements of persons would be suspended, except the permitted activities, said district magistrate Pawan Yadav.
The district magistrate also directed the superintendent of police and CEO of Autonomous District Council (ADC) to tie up necessary announcement for restriction of vehicular movement and closure of shops, respectively.
Any persons found to be in violation will be prosecuted as per relevant provisions of the National Disaster Management Act, 2005 .
