Imphal, May 05 2013:
A day-long political conference of Congress party was held at Pishum Ningom Leirak Ground today under the auspices of Keishamthong Block Congress with Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam as Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who not holds the portfolio of Home but is also the President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), said that there is no harm when the different political parties in the State come out in public and give statements, which may or may not be of any relevance and sometimes prove to be total rubbish, because it is a good sign that they (the opposition political parties) have come up.
"Let them blather; it shows opposition parties do exist in the State", he maintained.
While mocking at the inability of most of opposition political parties in the State to win a seat in the State Assembly, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam observed that "it would be even more better if the opposition parties which are very much involved in chattering over certain irrelevant issues, at least have a sitting MLA.
These political parties have been ousted by the people in the last General Election" .
He went on to state that the Congress party is not a party meant to provide personal gains to some people only.
The party has been formed for the betterment of human society as a whole.
In Manipur as well there is no other political party other than Congress which can work for the welfare of the people.
Gaikhangam further stated that the Congress party cannot afford to think for itself.
It has to think and discuss development programmes of the people.
So, a similar gathering of all the leaders of AICC along with the unit leaders will be held shortly at Congress Bhawan.
Congress party has to go in accordance to the wishes of the people; it cannot and will not betray the people, Gaikhangam added.
The political conference was also attended by PHE Minister I Hemochandra; Agriculture Minister Md Nashir; former Minister L Jayentakumar and ex-MLA E Dwijamani.
