Control Centre to monitor education system in pipeline: Minister

The new building of District Institute of Education & Training ( DIET), Noney, constructed at a project cost of Rs 4,25,11,135 was inaugurated at Longmai Part-3, Noney district HQ by education minister Thounaojam Basantakumar as chief guest.
Hill Areas Committee chairman MLA Dinganlung Gangmei and Education com missioner H Gyan Prakash also attended the inauguration function of the building, which has 3Q rooms including water supply & sanitary rooms.
It has been constructed by the engineering wing of education (S) under State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).
After the inauguration, a public function was held at the multipurpose hall located at Noney town which was also attended by Noney DC Joseph Pauline Kamson, Longmai village chief Meiduan Gangmei and CSO leaders.
Addressing the gathering, minister Basantakumar said that a Command and Control Centre to monitor education system will be activated soon in the state similar with that in Gujarat and informed that implementation of the New Education Policy is progressing in the state too.
He also announced that results of the recruitment for graduate teachers will be declared within this month and it will resolve the issue of shortage of teachers in both hill and valley districts to a great extent.
While stating that the education sector is facing three main challenges - shortage of teachers (manpower), poor infrastructure and transfer and posting issues, the minister claimed that shortage of teachers is fallout of failure of the government to recruit teachers in the last 10 years due to which over 7000 posts of teachers are lying vacant in the state.
Informing that the department is taking up various initiatives to improve the education sector, the minister affirmed that the state will see a significant development in the sector in the next two years.
He even offered to resign from being a minister if he could not achieve the target.
On the other hand, Basanta confided that the department is planning to make uniforms of government schools multicolour in a bid to instil enthusiasm among the students to go to school.
He also spoke about the government's recent initiatives for distribution of computer sets and tablets to teachers and students of government schools.
Basantakumar also assured of making the newly inaugurated DIET Centre functional soon while adding that required teaching staff will be recruited soon.
HAC chairman Dinganlung Gangmei called upon the people to support the War on Drugs mission.
He also drew attention of the minister towards the lack of infrastructure and facility for education in the district and urged him to make the DIET Centre functional at the earliest.
In response, minister Basanta assured that all the shortcomings in the education sector in Noney district will be sorted out and solved.
Later, the minister distributed sports materials for school students and interacted with the students.
Various cultural programmes by several cultural troupes were also performed as part of the function.
Basanta also visited the construction site of the District Court complex of Noney at Rangkhung Part-1 and instructed the officials and contractors to expedite the construction process before the onset of monsoon season.
