Imphal, October 03 2012:
NEGLECTED by the state government and its concerned authorities, government schools in different parts of Jiribam Sub Division are wearing a withered look and waiting for a little sympathetic attention.
Not only the government officials but also the student organisations in the Sub Division are turning a blind eye to the deteriorating condition of the government schools in Goakhal, Borobekra, Chhotobekra, Yakuradhor and Laltingkhal, students and parents of the area lamented while talking to a team of media persons who went to inspect these schools some days back.
Bhutangkhal Government Primary School at Laltingkhal is one such neglected school in Jiribam Sub Division under Barak Circle.
The school has 121 students in all but only one teacher for teaching students in class 1 to 5 .
The lone teacher identified as Rohit Chandra Das is an engaged teacher by the two government teachers posted in the school.
The two government teachers are Hemango Sutta and Romabati.
Apart from lack of teaching staff, the school has inadequate number desks and benches and students are forced to sit on the floor over mats or broken parts of benches.
Mention may be recalled here that during a formal talk between the state government and the Jiribam District Demand Committee sometime earlier, it had agreed to upgrade Borobkrara Government High School into a Higher Secondary School.
Following the assurance, process of recruiting necessary teachers too had begun.
But the matter has remained swept under the carpet in due course of time.
