DM orders restriction; NH 37 briefly cut-off

To ensure smooth operation and address the issue of congested parking, Noney district magistrate Haulianlal Guite, who is also District Disaster Management Authority chairperson, has issued an order restricting general vehicular movement at ground zero of Marangching landslide, Noney where the rescue operations are underway.
In an order issued on Sunday, DM Haulianlal Guite stated that to avoid a pile-up of vehicles and visitors at ground zero of Marangching landslide site and ensure there is smooth, efficient operation of vehicles used in the search and rescue operation, only official vehicles and vehicles used in search and rescue operations will be allowed to go beyond the NH-37 junction point.
For other vehicles, only those with entry passes issued from the office of DC will be allowed to enter the ground zero, he added.
The DM also directed SDO Haochong (8414876531) to issue entry passes to vehicles only on reasonable grounds after consulting with the DC and the SP Noney.
He further requested the vehicles carrying relief materials from CSOs and other well-wishers to deposit the materials at the DC Noney office as no such vehicles will be allowed beyond the highway junction.
Meanwhile, the NH37 (Imphal-Jiribam highway) remained cut off for several hours on Sunday following a landslide in Sibilong area under Tousem sub-division bf Tamenglong district.
The landslide occurred at around 5 am on Sunday and totally cut off the highway.
Authority used excavators to clear the debris and vehicular movement resumed later in the afternoon.
However, movement of heavy vehicles has been banned for the time being considering the precarious condition of the national highway, especially along the landslide hit area.
