Imphal, September 01 2015:
Hill Areas Committee (HAC), Manipur Legislative Assembly has resolved to urge the State Government to invite all stakeholders from the hill districts and clarify "doubts" of the people with regard to the three Bills passed on August 31 by the Assembly.
The decision was taken as part of a 3-point resolution adopted at the end of an "urgent" meeting held on Tuesday under the Chairmanship of Dr Chaltonlien Amo.
The meeting discussed the three Bills - The Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015; The Manipur Land Revenues and Land Reforms (7th Amendment) Bill, 2015 and The Manipur Shops and Establishment (2nd Amendment) Bill 2015 in the wake of violent protests witnessed in hill areas particularly Churachandpur District.
After a prolonged deliberation, the HAC decided to take serious note of the "unfortunate incidents" that took place on August 31 in the hill districts.
The committee has decided to appeal all the protesters to maintain calm and not to take law into their own hands.
The meeting also condoled the loss of lives and observed a two-minute silence for the departed souls.
HAC has decided to urge the State Government to invite all stakeholders and clarify doubts of the citizens of the hills and bring peace at the earliest.
