Imphal, May 31 2018:
In an interesting turn of events, the father of a student studying at Millennium Institute of Science (MIS), Kawakeithel Mayaikoibi has lodged a complaint with the police accusing teachers of the school of manhandling his son while on the other hand the school authorities have claimed that the teachers of the school had punished the student for acting without discipline towards his teachers and that the teachers had not struck him more than twice with a stick.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the student who is currently studying in class XII science at MIS claimed that on May 25, at around 9.30 am, he and some of his friends did not stand when the teacher came to class.
When the teacher, Sir Ranjan (a Maths teacher) asked him why he did not stand up, he replied that he failed to do so as he was correcting his pants but the teacher grabbed his collar and began beating him accusing him (the student) of talking back to a teacher, the student claimed.
The students stated that he shouted as the teacher kept beating him and two more teachers arrived on hearing the commotion.
But instead of bringing a solution, the two teachers (identified as Pari and Manikanta), began beating him asking him why he did not wear his neck tie properly.
The student said that he finally said he was sorry and after that the Vice Principal of the school called the student's father.
Speaking to media persons, the student's father said that he was made to sign a paper agreeing to send his son to the school with proper uniforms and to abide by the school rules.
However, when they reached home, the student began complaining about getting nauseous and as such he was rushed to a hospital where they discovered several bruises.
The father further said that on the same evening, the VP of the school called him and told him to send his son to the school from the next day itself.
But due to the lack of any kind of attempt from the school authorities side to come to a mutually agreeable solution regarding the incident, the father lodged a report at the police station and also filed complaints to a students' union.
The father also expressed desire for the police to take up necessary actions against the involved teachers.
Based on the complaint of the father, Lamphel PS has registered an FIR in connection with the case.
On the other hand, MIS VP Moirangthem Binod said that the teachers of the school punished the student for acting without discipline and the teachers had just struck the student twice with a stick.
Admitting that beating the student with a stick was wrong on part of the teachers, the VP however, claimed that the attitude shown by the student against Ranjan, including grabbing his neck and attempting to beat him, was uncalled for and the other teachers rushed in and attempted to break up the commotion.
The student also said sorry only in the end, the Vice Principal added.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, the VP explained that the said student never attended class properly while in class XI.
He attended only about 30-40 classes but thinking about his future, the school decided to settle the matter with a simple fine payment and he was allowed to study in class XII.
The school authority is always open for discussion and dialogue and the Principal and the school authority are there for a reason, the VP said and added that it is disappointing to see the.
parents complaining to the police for such issue.
