AR organises Agro-Fest at Sajik Tampak

With the aim of providing means of alternative crops to the locals and to wean them away from poppy cultivation, 35 Assam Rifles of HQ 26 Sector under HQ IGAR(South) successfully conducted 'Agro-Fest': seminar cum workshop for local populace of Sajik Valley on 23 July 2011 .
The event was a joint venture by the unit with the Civil Administration.
The function was inaugurated by Shri.
Deleep Singh,IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Chandel, in the presence of Brigadier Upendra Dwivedi, Commander 26 Sector Assam Rifles and Shri.
Radhashyam, Superintendent of Police, Chandel.
Distinguished representatives from various Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, participated in the function, which included Prof.M Dhaneshwar Singh, HOD, Animal Science Dept.,Central Agricultural University, Dr.G P Kabui, Programme Coordinator, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Mr.Jugeshwar Singh, District Agriculture Officer and Mr.K Jogesh Chandra Sharma, Horticulture Development Officer, as well as a team of professors from various agricultural departments.
A series of joint educative lectures were organised by the visitors at the seminar.
They also distributed seeds of lady's finger, cabbage, beans etc to the villagers besides providing different variety of chemicals and organic fertilizers.
They expressed gratitude to the Agriculture and Horticulture officials and Assam Rifles for taking initiative for developmental activities in the valley and bringing the people of valley into main stream.
Approximately 650 local people were present at the seminar which included farmers from Chandel and Joupi also.
A medical camp, CSD and refreshment facilities were also made available to the populace attending the fest.
