A youth who was earlier abducted by one particular militant group has been rescued by a team of Imphal West police commandos and in the process also succeeded in arresting two of the kidnappers today at about 5.30 pm.
One of the arrested is reported to be a hard core member of the armed group with 15 years 'in service' .
The abducted man and subsequently rescued man is identified as Yumnam Manaoba Singh (23) son of Megha, who is an active worker of Health Minister Ph Parijat.
He was allegedly abducted in connection with the appointment of employees at JNIMS as well as contract works amounting to about Rs 10 crores.
Initial report suggested that Manaoba was abducted to settle a score with his father, a known Parijat loyalist.
Briefing media persons at the conference hall of Imphal West police station today evening, SSP L Kailun said that as soon as information was received that cadres of the KCP (MTF) had abducted a man from his residence at Yourbung Maning Leikai on July 19, police commandos of Imphal East and West have been put on high alert.
On receiving specific inputs that Manaoba is being held captive at a house in Samurou, Imphal West police commandos swung into action and managed to rescue Manaoba as well as arrest two members of the KCP (MTF) along with a 9 mm pistol with eight live bullets.
The cadre is identified as Nepram Nanao (15) .
In the mean time, following the success of the rescue operation, local MLA and a Health Minister, Th Parijat donated Rs 20,000 for grand feast to the security forces rescue team.
.YManaoba (23), a son of CPI worker under Lamlai police station was kidnapped on July 19 by one particular militant group (KCP-City Meitei), said the police source.
Briefing the media, Th Parijat, who is also the local CPI MLA from Lamlai AC of said that allegations put up against him for corruption by one militant group are baseless and looks political vendetta.
Meanwhile, the kidnappers who were arrested during the rescue operation have been identified as N.Priyojit @Nanao (15) s/o N.Biren Singh of Leimakhong Chingmang and Kh.
Nabakumar from Samurao Awang Leikei.
One 9mm pistol, 8 rounds, one magazine and a Nokia handset were recovered from their possession, added the source.
