Imphal, May 23 2014 :
MLA Th Shyamkumar on Friday clarified that Kim Gangte had not yet resigned as president of Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress (MPTC), and the reported election of a new party president was just a 'rumour' .
"All reports pertaining to appointment of a new president of the State unit of Trinamool are wrong.
Kim still holds the post.
I pledge to uphold the ideology of the party," Shyamkumar said while talking to pressmen at his private residence at Moirang Purel in Thoubal district.
The Andro MLA said that it was unfortunate to learn from media reports that MLA Kh Joykishan had been chosen by a group of five MPTC legislators as the new president of the party.
It was just a rumour and so further explanation on the matter is a waste of time, he said.
Shyamkumar, who was the chairman of MPTC Election Committee for the 16th Lok Sabha polls, further explained that the party high command is still unaware of the reports on the replacement of Kim by Joykishan.
Those leaders of State Trinamool, who have created the problem within the organization, should rather quit the party and stop staging immature political drama, Shyamkumar maintained.
Shyamkumar also rejected Kim's allegation that some party members have been lobbying hard for the post of the MPTC president in New Delhi.
AITC secured the fourth position in the number game after its 34 candidates were elected in the national elections.
Shyamkumar said he has great respect for his party whose candidate got 23,000 votes in his constituency in the Parliamentary polls.
However, his viewpoint regarding Kim was that she should make a stand in the wake of resignation by Bihar's JD-U Chief Minister Nitish Kumar after rout of his party in the national elections.
"I'll continue to work in the interest of my party.
But I may opt to resign as MLA if needed," Shyamkumar added.
