100 acres of poppy plant destroyed

Imphal, February 18 2011:
Illicit poppy cultivation in an area of around 100 acres have been destroyed in the continue drive conducted jointly by the NCB, Regional Unit, Customs division, NAB, Saikhul police, AMADA and E-Coy of 43 Assam Rifles.
The poppy plants found cultivating near Saijang village near Saikhul sub-division of Sadar Hill east in Senapati district and Kopak Nepali Basti along the Irilbung passing through Imphal-Saikhul road.
The destroyed plant is around Rs 6.60 crore.
The destruction drive conducted on February 16 and 17 was done systematically under the provision of NDPS Act, 1985 and no sentiment was hurt to anybody, said a statement of the superintendent of NCB, Regional unit, Imphal today.
