Imphal, July 14 2021:
WAQF Board chairperson Md Abdul Nasir said that the recent order against animal slaughtering issued by CID SP based on the letter of Animal Welfare Board of India to the state will not affect the celebration of Idul Zuha (Bakr Eid) festival.
Addressing a press meet at WAGF Board office here on Wednesday, former MLA Nasir said that chief minister N Biren is a secular leader, who sees all communities equally and works to serve their interest.
Under his (Biren) administration, no major issues have cropped up both in hills and valley and it has been almost five years since the state has not seen bandh or blockade.
Likewise, the government has no intention of interfering in the celebration of Idul Zuha festival.
It was unfortunate that some people are trying to politicise the recent order by showing it as an order against a particular faith.
He then urged the Muslim people staying close with other people with different food habits to exercise caution that their food habits do not offend the neighbours in an illegal way.
One can celebrate the festival at their respective homes in legal manner while observing Covid appropriate behaviour and following relevant SOPs, he said.
Raising strong objection against the order prohibiting animal slaughter issued in relation with Eid Al-Adha by SP CID (CB), Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) has categorically stated that the order in question is a challenge to the beliefs and faith of Meetei Pangal community.
Addressing a press meet on Wednesday, MMWO advisor Abdulah Phundreimayum said that sacrificing animal has been an integral part of Eid festival of the Muslims and banning such religious practices will invite public movement.
Meetei Pangals, who have been settling in the state for over 400 years, have been celebrating Eid festival and neither the Meetei Kings nor the public had ever restricted the tradition.
The Animal Husbandry Act 1960 does not restrict religious animal sacrifice and even the Supreme Court allows the practice.
The tradition of animal sacrifice has its own significance in Islam and it is also a tradition to distribute meat of the sacrificed animal to poor families.
The order issued by SP CID is uncalled for, he said and appealed to the authority concerned to take up appropriate action against those individuals, who spread false information on social media by claiming that the order was fake.
