Measles outbreak concerns officials

Following the outbreak of Measles in two villages within months of implementing amass Measles and Rubella vaccination drive, the DFWO Churachandpur has raised concern on the reported refusal of some parents to vaccinate their children.
Measles which has claimed a five-year-old girl at K Nabil villages, located some 5 kms from the District Hospital and affected five of her other siblings started developing symptoms sometime in May last-week.
The six children of Seingam Kipgen were not vaccinated with MR said a report furnished by Dr Ngahneikim Haokip,DSO.
The disease outbreak was also detected at Monglenphai village located along the Tiddim Road about the same time with four children reportedly showing signs Measles.
At least three of them are from a family and all four have not received the MR vaccination, it added.
With the cases of outbreak reported from the pockets which have refused the MR vaccine, the DFWO Dr Jamthianlal has appealed to the public to not be swayed by any unfounded gossips and refuse to vaccinate their children.
The highly communicable and endemic disease has claimed upto 49,000 children every year in India.
The opportunity and responsibility to prevent such disease is with every parents and they must take their children from 9 months to 15 years to the nearest PHC, PHSC or the District Immunisation Office on all working days, he said.
